Suzi and the Queen Team
Suzi Hulsmann is an enthusiastic beekeeper in Paso Robles, California. She has assembled a fantastic team of friends and family to assist her in the removal, relocation and preservation of honey bee colonies in San Luis Obispo County.
The Central Coast of California is a beautiful location for productive honey bee colonies, but not all of the bees in our county exist in man made hives. Many colonies live quite comfortably in oak trees, wine barrels, barn walls, shed floors, bird houses, restaurant signs, compost bins, bathroom ceilings, attics and chimneys!
Suzi uses infrared technology to define the exact location of the colony, and has the experience to orchestrate any relocation.
Suzi uses the Colorado Bee Vacuum to gently remove the honey bees from their wax comb. When the comb is exposed, the team cuts it out and rubber bands it into frames that fit into a hive. They work hard to assemble the comb in exactly the same configuration as the bees built it. The vacuumed bees are returned to their comb in the hive at a more appropriate location. Suzi photographs each colony during the relocation process. She is absolutely expert in determining honey bee colony health and often instruments Varroa mite counts while on site.
The Queen Team is dedicated to the productivity of the colonies in their care.
